What lie detector record?

Research :

How does a lie detector (polygraph) work?

My Topic: The lie detector is not always accurate.

What I hope to learn from this source:
I want to know the principles of the lie detector more simply.

Notes.
1. The lie detector usually record this things.
  • The person's breathing rate
  • The person's pulse
  • The person's blood pressure
  • The person's perspiration
And the lie detector determines lie or not based in this results.

2. When a well-trained examiner uses a polygraph, he or she can detect lying with high accuracy. However, because the examiner's interpretation is subjective and because different people react differently to lying, a polygraph test is not perfect and can be fooled.

>>>>Final Thoughts:
1. I want to know how the lie detector works.
And I can learn the lie detector's principals from this research.
According to the research, It usually record the person's breathing rate, pulse, blood pressure, and perspiration. And based on this records, it distinct the lie.

2. And accidently, I found some possibility that the lie detector can not be accurate.

Notes:
Polygraphs, commonly called "lie detectors," are instruments that monitor a person's physiological reactions.
A polygraph instrument is basically a combination of medical devices that are used to monitor changes occurring in the body. As a person is questioned about a certain event or incident, the examiner looks to see how the person's heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate and electro-dermal activity (sweatiness, in this case of the fingers) change in comparison to normal levels. Fluctuations may indicate that person is being deceptive, but exam results are open to interpretation by the examiner.
Polygraph exams are most often associated with criminal investigations, but there are other instances in which they are used. You may one day be subject to a polygraph exam before being hired for a job: Many government entities, and some private-sector employers, will require or ask you to undergo a polygraph exam prior to employment.

Polygraph examinations are designed to look for significant involuntary responses going on in a person's body when that person is subjected to stress, such as the stress associated with deception. The exams are not able to specifically detect if a person is lying, according to polygrapher Dr. Bob Lee, former executive director of operations at Axciton Systems, a manufacturer of polygraph instruments. But there are certain physiological responses that most of us undergo when attempting to deceive another person. By asking questions about a particular issue under investigation and examining a subject's physiological reactions to those questions, a polygraph examiner can determine if deceptive behavior is being demonstrated.
>>>>Final Thoughts:
The lie detector called 'polygraph' records person's heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate and electro-dermal activity compare to normal levels.  Through these information, It can determine if deceptive behavior is being demonstrated.

Week 2

Research Proposal

What is my current topic?
I want to research about the 'Lie detector' that can distinct the person who lie or not.
I think the 'Lie detector' is not precise all the time.

What are my guiding questions?
Is the 'Lie detector' can be believable?
Is  'Lie detector' can be the evidence?

What are my current thoughts?
I knew 'lie detector' is the machine that can distinct the person who is lie or not.
And I think it can be wrong somethimes, so I want to persuade the 'lie detector' is not  accurate to be the evidence in the court or investigation.

What is the opposition?
Some people can be argue that it's a useful device. Because people usually cannot distinguish the lie easily. And also it is accurate because it distinguish through physiological phenomena in figure.

Week1 Brainstorming

medical dectectives - Brainstorming

<lie dectector>

1. Principal how it work (원리)

2. accuracy (정확성)

3. I think its not exactly right. Also it can not be the evidence.

4. real example (거짓말 탐지기로 피해를 본 실제 사례)

5. In the drama ‘7level public official’, they practice many training about ‘lie detector’. The main characters can deceive ‘lie detector’.
In National Intelligence Service (NIS), I heard that they use this device.

If they tell the true, the ‘lie detecter’ can say it’s lie!!! Because they might be nervous although they tell the truth.
Also there are some people who are good at lie inborn.
